Hey, I'm Simba!

Simba’s story

Simba came to us in 2022 and has a very special story. He used to be kept as a pet and had a very close bond with his owner – he even slept in bed with her. However, this situation was eventually discovered, Simba was taken away from her and was first taken to a vet before finding a new home with us.

Today, Simba lives with us in his own enclosure. We’ve tried to socialise him with other monkeys, but he’s very possessive and prefers to have everything to himself – be it food or attention. That’s why he currently lives on his own, but in return he gets all the more affection from us humans.

He really needs this closeness. Several times a day, we sit with him, talk to him, stroke him through the fence – some of us even sing to him. In these moments, it becomes clear just how much trust and need for connection he has within him.

Simba is particularly fond of peanuts and peanut butter. But his greatest love is his yellow tennis balls. He runs around his enclosure with them, carries them with him at all times and never lets them out of his sight – they are his little, precious treasure.

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to release Simba back into the wild. Having lived as a pet, he would constantly seek out human company and find his way back. In the wild, he would be unable to join a group and, as a loner, would have little chance of survival.
