Stevie is our oldest soul at Helping Hands – full of wisdom and with a profound story that speaks volumes beyond what words could ever convey. He came to us in 2012 as a young adult, having been abused as a victim of cruel rituals, lost his sight and his left hand, and was eventually found by the side of the road. Yet it was precisely there that his second life began.

At the Rehab Centre, Stevie found not only safety but also his calling: as a loving ‘foster father’, he guided many little monkeys on their journey to freedom. With patience, experience and a huge heart, he became an important teacher – until the next generation eventually became a little too cheeky and it was time for him to hand over the reins.

Today, Stevie is enjoying his well-deserved retirement alongside Vaalie. In peace, security and with a new zest for life, he shows every day that even the deepest wounds can heal.

Stevie reminds us that true strength does not lie in going through life unscathed – but in remaining gentle despite everything and facing life with dignity and confidence.
